“Baba Yaga”

Pen & Ink on Acid-free Paper
This ink drawing explores the mythic presence of Baba Yaga—an enigmatic figure rooted in Slavic folklore. Neither wholly malevolent nor benign, she exists in the liminal space between fear and wisdom. Rendered entirely in black and white, the piece uses intricate linework and ornamental detail to echo the tangled forest she inhabits, evoking both enchantment and unease. Through this work, I aimed to capture the duality of Baba Yaga as both a guardian and a threat—her hut on chicken legs looming in surreal stillness, while nature coils around her in silent witness. The drawing invites viewers to step into the folklore’s shadows and consider the deeper archetypes that dwell there.
